How it works

How TBS Apprenticeships work

Permanent Role:
Your technical apprenticeship is designed to prepare you for a successful engineering career at TBS. By the end of your fourth year, you should have all the experience you need to start a permanent role in the Company, and a good idea of where your skills fit best. TBS is committed to championing each and every apprentice on their own individual journey – we’ll continue to support your career development as you settle into permanent employment and for years to come.

TBS Commercial Apprenticeship

This year TBS is also offering an 18-month Commercial Apprenticeship, in which you complete a Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration while gaining valuable corporate work experience in industry. You will be based at TBS headquarters full time, picking up important business skills while learning the different commercial aspects of an engineering business including Sales, Purchasing, Spares, Shipping and Finance. This business apprenticeship is a great opportunity to gain a broad understanding of this world-leading engineering company and become an integral part of the future of TBS.

How to apply:

To apply please send your CV with a covering letter addressed to Kathrin Beckerleg at

The next step in the selection process will be a 2-part assessment, taking place at both GET and TBS.

The closing date for this year’s scheme is 31st March 2019.

TBS Engineering and Manufacturing Apprenticeship

Our four-year engineering and manufacturing apprenticeship scheme, based in Gloucester, is structured so you work in different areas of the business to learn different skills and start to identify where you want to go in the future. You gain a dual-skilled technical qualification (mechanical and electrical) while picking up valuable experience in the workplace and earning a good wage.

Each month, a one-to-one review gives you the opportunity to discuss how things are going with your studying, or anything else to do with your engineering training. Open, two-way communication is so important at every level across our business and we’re here to give you the best possible opportunities in your path to success.

Year One:
You study full time at Gloucestershire Engineering Training (GET) and start gaining your technical qualifications, that are recognised both nationally and internationally, as well as working on functional Maths, English and ICT skills. You’ll develop essential skills for success in business and spend college holidays at our headquarters in Gloucester Business Park, getting to know the Company, while building your professional experience.

Years Two to Four:
The balance shifts in the second year – you study engineering at GET one day a week, and spend the rest of the working week in the factory. You rotate around the departments at TBS, to learn business skills in each different area. By the end of the fourth year, you will have a good overview of design, manufacturing, fitting, tooling and maintenance and be a valued member of the team.  You will also have completed the Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
