GEL BATTERY EDGE WRAPPING

Group edge wrapping using glass fibre mat is just one of the ways  manufacturers are seeking to extend the life of their gel batteries. For gel battery production where the plate stacks are wrapped in glass-fibre to prevent short circuits, the new Case-out fleece wrapping machine (COFW1) automatically cuts the material to length, wraps the groups and inserts them into the battery containers. The groups can be loaded manually or taken directly from a COS unloader. The glass fibre mat is drawn through a guilotine by special grippers, and cut to a set length controlled from the operator interface. The machine senses and reports when either groups or material are not available.

The machine featured here can process 1.5 batteries per minute or a version has been produced which is capable of processing 3 batteries per minute. From the perspective of both increased productivity and ergonomic considerations, this machine will produce a significant return on investment within record time.
